The American Legion’s mission statement, as adopted by the National Executive Committee in October 2020, is:
To enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
The American Legion’s vision statement is “The American Legion: Veterans Strengthening America.”
The American Legion’s motto is “Veterans Strengthening America”.
How to Become a Member
To be eligible for membership, you must have served at least one day of active military duty since December 7, 1941 and were honorably discharged or you are still serving active military duty honorably. Service in the military academies is also eligible for membership since World War II.
Why be a Member?
Join us for camaraderie, fellowship, and a renewed sense of community. Serving as more than just a gathering place, it fosters a sense of belonging and understanding within the veteran community, transcending differences, and uniting individuals under a shared bond of service.
Can my Family members join?
Yes, there are multiple avenues to join and support our military community.
- The American Legion Auxiliary is made up of the male and female spouses, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion.
- Sons of the American Legion members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership.
- Legion Riders must hold membership in and be in good standing with The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion. Members must be legally registered motorcycle owners or be the legally registered owner’s spouse within the state of registration. All operators must be properly licensed and insured per state laws. All members must obey motor-vehicle laws in the state in which they are operating a motorcycle or riding as a passenger.
